University Counseling at WISS

Starting Four Years Before the Deadline

WISS Shadow Day on campus
Grades 9 to 12

A Grade 9 conversation, not a Grade 12 problem.

Most schools treat university counselling as a Grade 12 problem. We treat it as a Grade 9 conversation. By the time a student at WISS sits down to write a personal statement, they have spent four years building self-knowledge — exploring what they're good at, what they value, what kind of environment they thrive in, and which universities genuinely fit who they are.

WISS college counselors work with students and families to identify the university options that best fit each child, finding the right offer at an institution where the student will flourish.

  • Counselling runs across Grades 9 to 12
  • Every student has an individual counselor
  • Every family has direct access
  • Support for UK, US, Canada, Australia, Europe, and Asia
What Makes Our Approach Different

Three things we do differently.

Our students apply to universities in a variety of countries.

WISS students frequently apply to three or four countries simultaneously, and our counselors are current on admissions requirements, scholarship structures, and application processes in all of them.

We start when it matters.

Grade 12 personal statement coaching is valuable. Four years of self-exploration that gives a student something genuine to write about is more valuable. We invest in both.

The IB works in our favour.

The Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, and CAS are genuinely valued by university admissions offices, particularly in the UK, Netherlands, and increasingly at selective US institutions. Our counselors help students articulate what their IB experience demonstrates.
